Aims of the Course
12th Grade Humanities at Animas High School is designed to provide students with a framework to critically analyze the role of government and markets in our lives. In addition, Econ/Gov aims to give students skills to better understand forces currently shaping our world. This will empower students as active citizens of local, national, and international communities. Students of Econ/Gov will understand short and long term implications of decisions we make in social, political, and financial fields. Additionally, graduates of Econ/Gov will have the skills to succeed in economics and political science at the college level.
Projects for 2014-15
1st Amendment Media Project
Students will engage in an analysis of the Constitution and Bill of Rights through an in-depth look at our 1st Amendment rights. |
College Essay
Boot Camp Students will engage in a 2 week intensive writing and revision seminar tailored to their specific college applications. |
Model Senate
Students will understand the powers, design, and workings of all 3 branches of government. Students will demonstrate their knowledge of these relationships through simulating the United States Senate. |
Money Matters
Students will be introduced to fundamental concepts in micro-economics, macroeconomics, and personal finance. |
Senior Project
Students will engage in a college-level research and writing assignment that will culminate in a 10-20 page formal research paper, thesis defense, and senior presentation in the “TED” style. |
